African Bee Insect and Rodent Recognition and Prevention Training

This course is designed for field workers and focuses on the most common risks from insect and animal bites, stings and infections. This course discusses work practices, common injuries prevention techniques, risk factors, treatment and the identification of various insects, bees and rodents. This course is based on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Agriculture, University of Arizona Research Council and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommendations fro protecting workers from hazards involving animals and insects.

Back Safety Awareness and Lifting Techniques

The goal of this course is to tech participants back-protecting techniques for lifting and moving objects. Back Safety Awareness and Lifting Techniques is an awareness course that demonstrates proper lifting techniques and pre-lifting exercises that can help employees prevent back injuries. The course shows how to help avoid injuries resulting from quick moves, awkward postures, lifting with a rounded back, lifting items that are too heavy or too large, and twisting to move a load or reaching too far.

Biological / Chemical Awareness

This course helps replace myths and rumors with the FACTS on anthrax, smallpox and other biological / chemical agents. The course covers topics such as the following: what are the various biological / chemical hazards? How should biological / chemical hazards be handled? How do people contract the various hazards? What symptoms indicate exposure to various hazards? What treatments are available? What precautions can be taken to protect workplace environments? This course also includes information on Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) as identified by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Blood Borne Pathogens

This course addresses the requirements for industrial and/or healthcare employees that may be exposed to blood or other potentially harmful bodily fluids. Topics include: definitions of blood borne diseases, workplace transmission, sanitary issues, reducing risk to exposure, safe work practices, personal protective equipment, housekeeping, HBV vaccinations an much more. HIV and AIDS issues are discussed with regard to the potential risks, transmission and prevention methods to be used in the work environment.

CPR & First Aid Certification – Basic Advanced Training

These courses meet several OSHA standards. They prepare employees in the proper administration of first aid until more advanced help can be obtained. Participants expand their knowledge and skills in first aid response by observing and reacting to simulate real-life emergencies. The hands-on training incorporates lifesaving techniques such as adult CPR skills, assisting choking victims, rescue breathing techniques, dealing with bleeding wounds and bone injuries, correctly handling various chemical burns, splinting, assessing and responding to shock, treating poisoning, heat-related emergencies and many other common incidents. This training can mean the difference between life and death, rapid versus prolonged recovery and temporary versus permanent disability.

Fire Extinguisher Safety and Employee Fire Prevention Training

This Course shows participants how they can help reduce the risk of fire and what to do in the event of one. Both courses teach employees how to properly select and use a portable fire extinguisher. In the 4-hour course, students participate in a “live burn” demonstration. Forklift Training for Operations

This Course enables forklift operators to understand and implement safe forklift operations, thereby avoiding accidents and minimizing product damage. The course covers forklift operator topics such as pre-work inspections, steering, load handling, working around pedestrians, hazardous floor surfaces, emergency stopping and forklift securing. The course encompasses a variety of forklift equipment, from basic electric and LP gas-powered units to order pickers and pallet trucks, in addition to working with site-specific equipment (which is necessary to meet the OSHA compliance training requirement). The class is appropriate for forklift operators and site managers.

HAZWOPER – Initial Training

HAZWOPER courses are designed for those who have the potential to become involved in emergency response to hazardous waste or hazardous materials such as from leaks, spills, accidents or fire while on the job at large/small quantity generators or individuals who need training and certification to work at a hazardous waste site (CERLA, RCRA or state or local government sites).

Key course components include: recognizing and evaluating hazardous materials, incidents, organizing, the response team, protecting response personnel, identifying and using response resources, implementing basic control measures, refining decision- making skills, and protecting the public.

Topics include: chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials, toxicology, recognition and identification of hazardous materials, direct-reading instruments, standard operating procedures, personal protection and safety, and sources of information. This training course emphasizes hands-on use of equip0ment complementing the lecture sessions. Class members participate in two simulations wearing fully encapsulating suits, chemical splash gear and utilize air-monitoring equipment.

HAZWOPER – Refresher Training

This annual course is required within one year of the initial or last refresher course completion to maintain compliance as outlined in 20 CFR 1910.120(e) and (q). In addition to reviewing key topics from the HAZWOPER courses, this course strongly emphasizes new developments and information. Training includes updates for compliance issues and changes, emergency response plans, personal protective equipment and first responder techniques with a hands-on practical session.

HAZWOPER – Operations Level

This course is designed for Plant Operations Staff and other personnel who respond to an unplanned accident or spill of hazardous materials in order to protect nearby persons, property, or the environment. Participants learn how to respond “defensively” containing the release from a distance, keep it from spreading, and prevent exposures. The course addresses recognition and evaluation on environmental and occupational hazards associated with an emergency response, and teaches participants how to properly protect themselves.

This course will address the issues of health and safety as outlined in the OSHA Standards for occasional workers and visitors having “no potential for exposure to site hazards” above PIL. Topics include the fundamentals of those previously mentioned in the 40-hour course description, with the exception of some workshops and exercises due to the certification limitations.

Topics include: basic hazard and risk assessment, NFPA/DOT identification systems, instrument use, toxicology, personal protective equipment selection and use, respiratory protection, self-contained breathing apparatus, basic site control containment, and confinement operations, emergency planning, decontamination and more. The course utilizes interactive lecturers, equipment demonstration, practical hands-on sessions and field exercises.

HAZWOPER – Incident Command Level

This course is designed to supervisors/managers who may act as the “Incident Commander” during the initial response from a sudden release of a hazardous chemical or material. This course emphasizes health and safety planning and coordination, site management, and regulatory compliance issues.

Other topics include risk management, emergency response protocol, scene management, site safety, communication, employee training, personal protective equipment programs, job site surveillance, respiratory protection programs, medical surveillance programs, emergency response programs, record-keeping and liability issues. Respirator and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

Personnel using respirators and their supervisors should be trained every year in the selection, fitting, use and care of respirators. This course covers the following content: identification of the hazards, which hazards call for respirator usage, overview of the proper types of respirators for particular purposes, and instruction in the operating principles, construction and limitations of each type of respirator.
